On the 30th October of this year, I asked you all to make your way too early predictions for the 2019 World Series. There were a few reasons for this:
- I wanted to see if people could be realistic about their predictions
- Following on from point one, I wanted to see who wasn’t realistic about their predictions and just blindly picked their own team (I have no way of knowing which people picked their own team as we didn’t collect names or e-mails, but the results might make it obvious)
- I wanted to get the first set of predictions released prior to the big free agent signings, winter meetings and Spring Training beginning
- I’m weird and interested in what other humans think.
So to recap, this is the first of two surveys, the second will be happening during Spring Training.
Now, on with the results for the first round of voting.
According to those surveyed, the Houston Astros are going all the way in 2019, closely followed by the New York Yankees and the…great…New York Mets.
Ok, maybe we can discount at least 75% of the Mets votes, as they probably from homers who don’t actually believe the Mets will do it. So let’s put them down at 3% of the vote.
The reigning champions, the Boston Red Sox, only have 9% of the vote and next up is the first of our “outsiders” (not the Mets), it’s the Atlanta Braves.
Overall, it looks like the early predictions have the AL dominating the World Series once again. With little change to the Astros and Yankees rosters so far this off-season, this is hardly a surprise. The strongest NL contender (Outside of the Mets *rolleyes*) is the LA Dodgers, who also have had little turnover and have a history of spending money.
The rest of the field had some sporadic votes, again this is probably homers picking their team.
So did we achieve all I asked for at the start of the post?
- I wanted to see if people could be realistic about their predictions
- Well done, the majority of you were realistic.
- Following on from point one, I wanted to see who wasn’t realistic about their predictions and just blindly picked their own team (I have no way of knowing which people picked their own team as we didn’t collect names or e-mails, but the results might make it obvious)
- Oh dear, some of you were using blind faith. The Padres and Marlins, 2% each, really? Silly sausages.
- I wanted to get the first set of predictions released prior to the big free agent signings, winter meetings and Spring Training beginning
- Done, looking forward to the next one.
- I’m weird and interested in what other humans think.
- Yep, still weird.
We will run the survey again after the new year so keep your eyes peeled if you want to get involved again. We’ll then use these numbers to compare them to the numbers in the second survey, to see if the top of the tree has changed. Also it could also give us the chance to try and work out who “won” the offseason.
PS. Before anyone says it, I wasn’t one of those that voted for the Padres.
