What’s the point of the Mets?

(5) Jacob deGrom is from a different planet

The two-time Cy Young Award winner has produced one of the most thrilling seasons of pitching I can remember. He won’t win the award for a third time as it is judged on quantity rather than quality, but he currently has a 1.08 ERA with 0.55 WHIP over his 15 starts.

The 33-year-old stunned baseball fans and analysts alike by actually increasing his velocity. He leads all starters with 99.2 MPH average velocity on his fastball, almost eclipsing the 97.9 mph of Sandy Alcantara in second place.

Through 11 starts this season, deGrom had a 0.54 ERA and 724 ERA+ (meaning he was 624% better than the league average – a number that I can’t quite get my mind around).
