Right then, British baseball fam – cancel your quiet Friday evening plans, text the group chat, and come along to shout at a screen in the company of your fellow baseball nerds. Because on 6 March, Great Britain is back on the global stage, and frankly, it would be a crime to watch this alone.

It’s World Baseball Classic Time, Baby

Great Britain is rolling into just their second-ever World Baseball Classic – yes, that’s right, it’s the baseball equivalent of the World Cup – with the opening game on Friday 6 March, when GB take on Mexico.

That’s the Mexico of Randy Arozarena, Jarren Duran, and Alejandro Kirk. It is a monumental game for Great Britain, but in a one-off clash, Brad Marcelino’s “bunch of freaking tough dogs” have the ability to take down anyone.

All of our years of staying up to unholy hours to follow MLB has been rewarded by UK-friendly game times. First pitch is 6 PM GMT. Great Britain baseball = Prime-time baseball.

While the lads handle business in Houston, baseball clubs up and down the country are throwing open their doors for a nationwide watch party. Expect noise. Expect camaraderie. Expect someone attempting to explain OPS after a couple of pints.

Get there early, grab a drink, and debate the roster omissions – Chavez Young (2023’s stolen base king) and D’Shawn Knowles (.846 OPS in Double-A last year) – then settle in for nine innings… or more. Can you imagine the excitement if it went to extras?

Here’s the bit where you become the hero your local baseball scene deserves.

BaseballSoftballUK and the British Baseball Federation have the capacity for up to 10 more clubs to get involved and host their own watch parties — and yes, there are perks.

You’ll get a proper “Party in a Box” stuffed with decorations, goodies, and raffle prizes. All you need is:

✅ A public venue with a telly
✅ At least 10 club members (bonus points for rocking GB or club gear)
✅ A dash of social media so the world can see British baseball doing its thing

It’s first come, first served – so if your club is keen, don’t hang about.
