In just over three weeks, Great Britain – the European Champions – head to Taiwan to compete in the Women’s World Cup qualifiers. The expense and logistics involved in sending the team (and coaches, and support crew) is unfathomable to my small brain and penny-pinching demeanour.

Did you see the news about the International League Pitcher of the Week? Well actually, this is the third time this season that GB’s Brendan Beck clinched the award. The right-hander, who tossed four hitless innings in Great Britain’s monumental WBC victory in March, has made his Yankees’ debut this season and is set to become a key member of their rotation in 2027.

Why am I telling you about this? Well, because you can bid on an official Brendan Beck jersey in the GB Baseball auction. And, if you really want a complete set, you can double-up on the Beck jerseys in your wardrobe by bidding on one from the San Francisco Giants (and Great Britain’s) Tristan Beck.

And as every penny raised goes towards sending the GB athletes across to qualifiers in Tainan, you can afford to be that extra bit generous in the name of philanthropy.

WORLD CUP QUALIFER: ROCKFORD, USA

One of the two qualifier pools has just finished in the USA, with the hosts, Canada, and surprise package Australia progressing to the 2027 World Cup finals. Surely there will come a time when “surprise” is not used before Australian baseball, whether it’s men or women.

WORLD CUP QUALIFER: TAINAN, TAIWAN

This is GB’s group. Games start on 23 August, with the team playing five different opponents over five days: Japan, Taiwan, Venezuela, Cuba, and the Philippines. You don’t need to be an expert on women’s baseball to appreciate that the pool features some of baseball’s juggernauts, so finishing in the top three will be the toughest of asks.
